Visas for Thai travellers to Sri Lanka have not been suspended in the wake of the Easter bombings in Colombo, the country's ambassador to Thailand says.
Ambassador Kshenuka Senewiratne said the Sri Lankan government decided to postpone a proposed free visa scheme due to start today, but the original standard visa application process is still available. Thais can either apply for a visa online, through the Electronic Travel Authorization (ETA) system or obtain one on-arrival in Sri Lanka. The fees are US$35 dollars and $40 dollars respectively.
She was responding to a Bangkok Post report referring to www.srilanka.travel, the website of Sri Lanka's tourism agency, which said a visa on arrival scheme to citizens of 39 countries, including Thailand, which was to start on May 1 had been suspended due to security concerns.
