VISAKHAPATNAM: At least five workers were injured in a blast that occurred in Hetero Drugs at Nakkapalli in Visakhapatnam district on Wednesday night. The condition of the two injured is said to be serious as they received severe burns. They were shifted to a hospital in Vizag city.
According to sources, the blast occurred at a reactor in the pharma unit and workers near the reactor received burns as flames spread the entire area following the blast. Workers near the reactor ran for their lives. Fire tenders were dousing the flames till late in the night.
Following the mishap, the management stopped the operations in the plant. The entire plant was under darkness after the incident. Narsipatnam subdivision ASP Manikanta Chandolu told TOI that they received information that two employees were seriously injured .
