Visakhapatnam: Baby found abandoned near burial ground dies

VISAKHAPATNAM: A baby boy was found abandoned near a burial ground at Sriharipuram under Malkapuram police station limits in Vizag city on Tuesday morning.

Sanitation workers who found the baby alerted the police, who rushed to the spot and found the infant wrapped in a cloth. The new-born was taken to two hospitals before being shifted to KGH Hospital in the city, where he died while undergoing treatment.

“The baby boy may have been born out of wedlock and might have been abandoned by a woman. We have registered a case under relevant sections of the IPC. We are checking the records at the private as well as the government hospitals in the region to trace the parents of the infant,” Malkapuram police said.

Incidents of newborns being abandoned are increasing in the Vizag region.

More than four such incidents were reported in the Vizag region in the past one year.
