Virus outbreak at Glasgow station as eight firefighters test positive

Eight firefighters have tested positive for Covid-19 at Govan Fire Station.

Scottish Fire and Rescue Service bosses tonight confirmed the emergency service workers had contracted the virus and were now self isolating.

The station has been deep cleaned and employees are expected to return to the job later this week.

Roddie Keith, the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service’s Local Senior Officer for the City of Glasgow, reassured the public that their safety is the services main priority and are continuing to respond to emergencies.

He said: “I can confirm that eight firefighters at Govan Fire Station, Glasgow, recently tested positive for COVID-19 and self-isolated in line with guidance from the Scottish Government.

“They are expected to return to work later this week.

“I would like to reassure the people of Glasgow that their safety is our highest priority and that we will continue to respond to emergencies wherever needed.

“We have robust arrangements in place for any staff who are experiencing COVID-19 symptoms and we will continue to follow guidance from Health Protection Scotland.

“A deep clean was carried out at the station, which remained operational, and I would like to pay tribute to our staff across Glasgow who have worked through this challenging time in a highly professional manner.”
