Virtually famous: PNL

PNL have long shown an international outlook in their big budget music videos, which have been shot everywhere from Japan to Iceland to Namibia, but it’s only now that the French rap duo are taking to a London stage.

Next week is the first ever UK concert by Tarik and Nabil Andrieu, brothers of Algerian and Corsican descent, who as Ademo and NOS have been consistently clocking up YouTube views and Spotify plays in the dozens of millions.

Their last album, Dans la Légende from 2016, was certified diamond in France for half a million sales, and this year they landed their first number one single there with A l'Ammoniaque. It will be interesting to see if they can translate in the land of grime, for their songs are generally slow and sparse, characterised by the pair’s heavily Auto-Tuned vocals.

But apparently their slang can be so dense that even native speakers don’t understand them, and French is a smooth language that suits their languid flow, so maybe it’s best just to let the words drift by and enjoy some rap musique from outside the usual environs.
