Virtually Famous: Lolo Zouaï

While Dua Lipa’s Future Nostalgia album grows in status as the greatest thing about lockdown – hitting number one at the same time as she had three singles in the top 10 at once – Lolo Zouaï must wait a bit longer to enjoy a little of that reflected glory. Later this month the New York singer should have been supporting Dua on a tour that included two nights at the O2 Arena.

That’s not happening until January now (fingers crossed), so she’s been keeping busy with last weekend’s home-recorded live performance as part of the Room Service festival, plus a new single, It’s My Fault, which is the first part of a six-track EP coming in June.

The song maintains the style that she developed on her debut album a year ago: minimal, slow-burning electronic R&B with hints of her French and Algerian roots. She sings in French here and there, and on her 2018 single, Desert Rose, made something evocative of the sweltering heat of north Africa.

If Dua Lipa’s many fans want to get into her now, during the long wait for the gigs, they won’t regret it.
