A virtual soccer challenge is set to be held to raise funds for a mental health charity.
#OK2TalkIRL and Naas AFC are organising the event, which is scheduled to kick off 19 June, with proceeds going to The Samaritans.
Last year's soccer event raised almost €15,000, with over 430 participants in the event itself, however due to coronavirus, this year’s event is being completed virtually.
Even with the event forced to go virtual, organisers hope to surpass the total raised last year and reach their impressive goal of €20,000.
The fundraiser was founded to commemorate Naas AFC player Cian Mullally.
In a video released ahead of the event, Cian's mother Mary and his best friend Ben urged people to get involved.
In a press release speaking about the fundraiser, #OK2TalkIRL said: “Participating in the #headsup4mentalhealth event is simple. Individually or in groups of no more than four, players are invited to showcase their most creative ball skills.
“Heads, shoulders, chest, knees, arms or feet or any sports equipment such as a hurley, golf club, tennis racket etc. can be used to exhibit your unique ball skills, all the while ensuring that a two-metre distance is maintained!
“Post your videos to #OK2TalkIRL socials, nominating 4 of your friends using the phrase: “I give the heads up to……” and use the hashtag #headsup4mentalhealth. Don’t forget to donate €4 per person to the #OK2TalkIRL Gofundme account to ensure this is a major success. All funds will be donated to The Samaritans.
“A feast of prizes are up for grabs, and with some celebrity names choosing their favourite entry, now is the time to find that creative flair and get #headsup4mentalhealth!"
