Virtual Harry Potter location tour and magic show to keep fans entertained this month - and it's free

A new virtual event is set to take Harry Potter fans on a tour through Edinburgh from the comfort of their own homes.

Events company Explore Virtual Tour say they will visit the sites that inspired locations in the book as well as the filming locations for the Harry Potter films.

The free event will take place on Wednesday, January 20, from 5pm until 7.30pm and will see lovers of wizardry join a Potterverse tour expert who will guide them through the streets of the capital.

The organisers say they will discuss each area’s relevance to the Harry Potter universe, as well as the general historical significance of each location.

Posting on social media, the virtual events firm said: "Grab a wand and join your (Scottish) local expert wizard guide on the original, award-winning tour of Edinburgh designed especially for Potter fans!

"You’ll discover the magical locations that inspired characters and scenes in the series, visit the places where JK Rowling wrote the books, and even learn a spell or two along the way."

Guests will discover where Lord Voldemort is buried, take a stroll down the real-life Diagon Alley, and even get a chance to find out their house at Edinburgh’s very own school of magic.

They added: "Your guide will use a magic mixture of Google Earth and high-resolution images to bring this tour to life virtually – all we ask is that you bring something that you can use a wand."

As well as the tour, the event will also have the optional extra of a magic show featuring top US magician Joe Skilton.

Combining magic with the latest streaming technology to bring audience members into the performance, the Explore Virtual Tour team say it will actively involve multiple audience members throughout the show.

They added: "A brand-new virtual magic show for the entire family! Mind Magic delivers a highly interactive experience that will have everyone laughing in astonishment."
