Virtual and online things to do from home today: Tuesday April 7

We’re a few weeks in now, and the UK like the rest of the world is in the grips of the coronavirus lockdown.

Things are tough out there, but there’s a silver lining – the UK’s cultural output has moved online, and millions of us have been tuning in for theatre shows, live comedy and art exhibitions from our sofas.

Nightlife, too, has been making its way into people’s homes through virtual club nights, and people are finding ways of enjoying live music during testing times.

There’s never been a better time to get back into reading, and there’s a plethora of accounts to follow for inspiration. Reese Witherspoon’s Reese’s Book Club has more than 1.5m followers and is a good place to start, while accounts like Books To Keep You Sane was set up specifically to help during isolation. It’s not just about discovering new books either it’s a real comfort in these difficult times to be involved in like-minded communities online, and escape with a good story. Camden Town Brewery are hosting their latest online event tonight, welcoming indie band Glass Caves for a live performance from 7pm. Tune in for an acoustic set and a live Q&A on their Instagram page this evening.

Go to an album listening party with Tim Burgess

Tim Burgess of the Charlatans is hoping music fans through isolation by hosting album listening parties, joined on Twitter by some of his musician friends. Tonight Field Music are talking through Making a New World at 9pm and The Cribs are live-tweeting their album Men’s Needs, Women’s Needs, Whatever at 10pm.
