Old Dominion (1-1) vs. Virginia (3-0) Game Preview
Why Old Dominion Will Win
The Cavaliers might just let down a wee bit. The two schools might be just 150 miles apart and there might be a fight between the fan bases – at least a wee bit – but this is coming after the big emotional win over Florida State and just before the date with Notre Dame.
Old Dominion has had two weeks off to rest up and get ready after battling hard with Virginia Tech, and again the Cavs just dealt with FSU. The Monarchs have done a nice job of taking the ball away, and so far they’ve shown off a solid run defense.
The athletic linebacking tandem in Jordan Young and Lawrence Gardner is good enough to keep Virginia QB Bryce Perkins in relative check and the pedestrian running game from going off.
Why Virginia Will Win
The pass rush has been phenomenal.
There wasn’t a problem against William & Mary, and the pressure was there against Pitt and FSU, too, with hybrid outside playmaker Jordan Mack leading the way for a dangerous group.
Old Dominion’s offensive line is having a big problem so far. In just two games it has allowed 14 tackles for loss and way too much pressure on passing downs. QB Stone Smartt has had his moments, but he’s only averaging 5.3 yards per throw and hasn’t thrown a touchdown pass.
The Cavalier secondary can be thrown on, but not consistently well. It’ll be running game or bust for the Monarchs, and again, they don’t have the O line to do it.

What’s Going To Happen
It’ll be a sleepy start for a Virginia team that won’t have the fire early on. Even so, the lines will take over as the game goes on, Old Dominion won’t be able to do much to take advantage of its opportunities, and the Cavs will get out with an uninspired win with a score that will look better than the actual game.
