Virgin Mobile outage: UK customers to receive compensation

Thousands of Virgin Mobile customers will receive compensation after the UK network suffered major service disruption.

The nationwide connection outage left customers unable to make calls or go online on Tuesday.

Virgin Mobile said the disruption was due to a technical issue.

In a statement, Virgin Media said the issue had been resolved and apologised for the “disruption and inconvenience some of our Virgin Mobile customers have experienced”.

It added: "We will be compensating our customers for the loss of service and will let them know the details shortly."

Customers responded by asking how Virgin planned to “let its customers know the details of compensation.”

“Via text? Phone call? Email..?,” tweeted one user.

The operator replied that it was “sorry for any disappointment with the service”, but gave no further information on how customers would be compensated.

Virgin Media told the Standard the problems only affected its mobile phone services, and there were no issues with its broadband, TV and home phones.

Service outage tracking website Is The Service Down said complaints about the issue on social media began at 8.20am, with comments surging shortly after 11am and into the afternoon.

According to telecoms watchdog Ofcom, if a network fails to deliver a promised service, users may be owed money for the inconvenience caused.
