Virgin Mobile down: Network outage problems leave customers unable to use phones

Virgin Mobile customers were complaining of a major service outage across the UK today.

Mobile network, mobile Internet and cable network have all had problems reported after people began flagging up issues with the service at around 11.30am this morning.

However, Virgin told the Standard that there is an issue affecting some of the Virgin Mobile customers but not Virgin Media cable users, so broadband, TV and home phones should not be affected.

The number of complaints recorded online by DownDetector reached a high of 3,912 in the last 24 hours.

According to the online outage tracker, reported issues are at their worst in London and Birmingham

Many customers have taken to Twitter to ask about the problem with one user saying: "I cant access virginmobile web page, cant access much at all, I need my phone for work & contacts, I am a carer, very frustrating and losing money!"

Others have said they are unable to make calls or use 4G.

A Virgin Mobile spokesperson said: “We’re working quickly to resolve an issue that’s affecting some of our customers making calls, sending text messages and using mobile data. We apologise to our customers for the inconvenience caused.”
