Virgin Media viewers react to 'compelling' Ian Bailey interview as chat divides opinions

Virgin Media aired their highly-anticipated interview between Collette Fitzpatrick and Ian Bailey.

The Big Interview had been plugged heavily in recent days.

Bailey continues to deny having any part in the killing of French filmmaker Sophie Toscan Du Plantier, however he remains a prime suspect.

25 years ago, the young French filmmaker was found dead at her home in West Cork, and her case turned into one of the biggest murder investigations in Irish history, attracting huge public interest.

The former journalist was convicted of the murder by a French court in 2019, but no-one has ever been found guilty in Ireland.

Bailey offered up his own theory about who was responsible for the Frenchwoman's death - a person he recently claimed to have passed away a long time ago.

He recently offered to take a lie detector test to prove he didn't kill Sophie.

Among other things, Bailey claimed:

  • That he once scaled a 20ft tree bare-handed
  • That he was once attacked by a turkey which weighed 20lbs
  • That Sophie was "not good looking"

Viewers were compelled by the interview.

"Guilty or not,Ian Bailey is an arrogant, unlikeable pr**k and five minutes in,this interview does him no favours!" one user tweeted.

Another said: "Colette Fitzpatrick is doing a superb job interviewing Ian Bailey. Brilliant questioning"

A third added: "This interview by Colette Fitzpatrick with Ian Bailey is compelling. Superb questioning on his history of domestic violence against his ex partner and his alleged confessions of committing the Sophie du Plantier murder very direct Answers given very strange"

While another said: "I'm not sure this fella should be on the TV or given any time by the media,"
