Virgin Media Tonight Show viewers all saying the same thing as they vent fury over Lotto draw

Viewers of Virgin Media's Tonight Show took to social media in their droves to air their grievances over the rolling Lotto jackpot.

The record €19 million prize has been rolling since June with Lotto bosses looking to introduce a new rule to stop the jackpot rolling over endlessly.

National Lottery CEO Andrew Algeo said he has sought regulatory approval to introduce a “must be won draw” into the Lotto game rules.

This would ensure that such an improbably long wait for a capped jackpot win cannot occur again.

The huge cash bounty went unclaimed again on Wednesday night, with three players coming within one number of winning the long-running jackpot.

The issue was discussed on Virgin Media's Tonight Show later on Wednesday night, with Fine Gael TD Bernard Durkan interviewed about the rolling Lotto jackpot.

The Kildare North politician has previously called for a "full investigation" into why the jackpot has not yet been won.

He said last month that "the prospect of winning is so remote that punters must be thinking Shergar would have a better chance at winning Squid Game".

And last week he reiterated his call for answers, saying: "A lot can happen in six months.

"Dublin footballers’ unbeaten run came to an end, a Summer heatwave came and went, Afghanistan fell to the Taliban, Omicron replaced Delta, Barbados became a Republic and Wally the Walrus visited our shores and left – without winning the lotto jackpot like the rest of us."

After the Tonight Show discussion, people took to Twitter to vent their frustration about the Lotto and what they think should happen next.

One viewer said: "#TonightVMTV you have a better chance of beating the dealer in #Vegas than winning the lotto jackpot."

A second wrote: "All stating the what we all know, How many are doing the lotto out of the adult population compared to previous years, ie when it was cheaper. #TonightVMTV."

A third added: "Who can afford to play lotto in this rip off country anymore? #TonightVMTV."

Another person said: "Just give out a new lottery licence and create a bit of competition #TonightVMTV."

While someone else stated: "#TonightVMTV come on @BernardDurkanTD give us a few bars of ‘where have all the Winners gone’."

A viewer said: "#TonightVMTV why not make it one in 5 million given that's roughly the population size?"

Another added: "We need to have 1000s of players winning £1000s each like the UK do if the lotto is not won & all still for a quid there too #TonightVMTV."

And someone else stated: "#TonightVMTV how about postcode lottery like in UK , use our eircode . I think it £2 in UK."
