Virgin Media’s Ireland AM major shake up sees popular presenter ‘let go’ as a way to 'cut costs'

Laura Woods is the latest star to leave Ireland AM as Virgin Media continues to shake up the morning programme.

It is a shock for viewers as the leading lady is parting ways with the station after a decade.

The Irish presenter was told in recent weeks that she was being made redundant.

And speaking to RSVP Live, Laura's agent Joanne Byrne confirmed that reports that she had left Ireland AM were correct.

The mum-of-two had been one of the show's most loved stars after ten years on the Ireland AM team, and reportedly left her role last month after negotiating an exit package.

Ms Woods is now planning to take some time out.

It is believed that more staff at the station are set to follow Laura out the door at Ballymount.

The slashing measures are understood to be an effort to cut costs as the station is believed to be for sale.

It comes as the broadcaster announced multiple hosting switch-ups earlier this month, even cancelling a popular daytime show.

Current affairs TV host Matt Cooper also announced that he would no longer be the host of the Tonight Show.

Muireann O’Connell and Elaine Crowley have also been placed into the Ireland AM slots from their 6pm and midday shows.
