Virgin Media One presenter Anna Daly tells how drinking wine helps her unwind

TV star Anna Daly has told how she shuns New Age mindfulness and prefers to "unwind with wine".

The Virgin Media One presenter said that a glass of vino at the weekend’s is her "guilty pleasure when the kids go to bed".

Mum-of-three Anna, 42, told the Irish Mirror: “Somebody said it to me when I was doing an interview before, everybody else was talking 'health and fitness, mindfulness and wellness,’ and you’re there talking about wine.”

Anna, who runs a lifestyle blog Annadaly.com, added: “But that’s life isn’t it, it’s about balance, I try to get to the gym as often as I can, be more mindful but also on Friday evening if I want to put my feet up and have a glass of wine I’m going to enjoy it and not feel guilty about it.

“I’m very interested in wine, there’s so much to learn, I’m not an expert but it’s fascinating,

“It’s a hobby. The site is about travel, a wine of the week, fashion, all the things I genuinely love because if I’m tired I will still write. I often don’t get to it until 1am in the morning.”

For the last four years the Dublin beauty has been the face of weekend TV on Virgin Media One and told how she’s learnt not to take herself too seriously.

She said: “I’ve learnt over the years that when you laugh at someone or are having a laugh it’s so important to share the joke.

“If you come back from an ad break and I’ve just tripped on the way back from the toilet because I’ve left it too late to run onto the couch and everyone is taking the pi** out of you, you have to share the joke with the viewer.

Weekend AM presenter Anna Daly hopes to have her own Saturday night chat show soon

“You can’t just come back laughing as it’s a bit sneery, they’re the moments people will stop you in the supermarket and say ‘remember that thing happened to you’ or remind you of the time the oven didn’t work.

“In my early days I would have tried to cover that up. I think it’s important to laugh at yourself and your own mistakes.”

Anna admitted she’s more confident now that she’s in her forties.

“I do have wrinkles and you notice the changes in your skin over the years but you hope that you’re bringing more than a wrinkle free face to the party.

“As you get older you get more confidence, coming back to laughing at yourself, it comes with years of broadcasting and doing shows and learning that trying to cover stuff up is not what you need to do.

“It’s better to point it out, laugh at it, it’s more endearing to people, it’s more honest and all of that comes with experience and age. We’re maturing like fine wine.”
