Virgin Media issues statement after widespread internet outage

Virgin Media has apologised after a broadband issue caused customers up and down the country to be without internet.

At around 5pm on Monday, April 27, problems started to happen with connectivity, according to data from website Down Detector, which monitors internet outages.

Customers across Nottinghamshire reported problems with their wi-fi as well as other parts of the country such as Bristol and Manchester.

On Tuesday morning (April 28) Virgin Media confirmed the issue had been resolved, although the cause of the problem has not been released.

A Virgin Media spokesperson said: “An intermittent broadband issue that started yesterday evening was fixed in the early hours of this morning.

"This was not caused by increased usage or a lack of capacity. We know how frustrating this was for customers and we sincerely apologise for any inconvenience caused.”

There were numerous reports on Twitter where people vented their frustration, especially those working from home during the coronavirus pandemic.

In some cases, Nottingham customers said they were still experiencing problems despite the announcement.

'becsstann' tweeted: "@ virginmedia we have no TV or internet still from yesterday, we’ve tried to reboot again this morning but still nothing... any further advice please?"

'cheriseprior', replying to @virginmedia said: "This isn’t resolved as mines still saying no internet secured and before you ask - yes I’ve rebooted it this morning."
