Virgin Media internet and phone signal down for customers in the North East

Virgin Media customers in the North East have reported problems accessing the internet and making phone calls.

There has been a large increase in technical issues reported to Virgin Media around the UK since around 7am on Thursday.

The majority of reports were made in London, Southampton and Manchester but Virgin Media customers in the North East also said they had been affected.

A live outage map on downdetector.co.uk shows hotspots in parts of Newcastle and Sunderland.

Most customers were experiencing issues with their cable internet, with a smaller number reporting problems with their mobile phone signal and phone internet.

A spokesperson on the Virgin Media Twitter account said that they were "aware of an issue" and they are working to fix it "as quickly as possible".

One customer in Newcastle said they were unable to make or receive calls.

Another in South Tyneside said they were only able to phone other mobiles on Virgin Media but couldn't connect to other phones.
