Virgin Media flooded with criticism after latest update on power outage

Virgin Media customers are outraged after the company's TV services went down yesterday.

According to Down Detector, thousands of users logged issues on Thursday with a spike of 18,133 at 11.10am.

Engineers worked throughout the day to resume services and the company say the majority of channels were restored by the evening.

Virgin Media released a statement this morning to apologise for the outage.

A spokesperson said: "We sincerely apologise for the issues with our TV service yesterday.

"Customers can now use their TV services as usual. This was caused by a major power issue and our engineers worked flat-out throughout the day to get things back up and running.

They continued: "Our main channels were restored by late afternoon with other channels restored throughout the evening."

Virgin Media sent out the apology on their social media channels and users flooded the comments to ask if they would be compensated for the loss in service.

Tim said: "Well that’s not good enough. Paying high prices for a service we didn’t get for a day. I’ll assuming there will be price reduction on my next bill?"

Kathryn added: "Will we be getting money off? £144 I pay each month and yesterday I couldn’t watch tv!"

Andy commented: "What about a refund for all those that were affected"

Chris posted: "Just deduct 8 hours from my next bill and there's absolutely no reason to apologise."

Virgin Media responded to the users to say the outage does not meet the terms and conditions of their automatic compensation scheme designed in conjunction with Ofcom.

This states that customers will start to receive credit of £8.06 per day following two full working days of a total loss of service.
