Is Virgin Media down? Broadband customers report loss of internet in major outage

Reports of issues with the firm’s internet service began on Monday morning - (PA Archive)

Thousands of Virgin Media customers are reporting problems with the internet provider.

Shortly before 11:45am on Monday, nearly 800 users had flagged issues with their internet connection with the website Downdetector.co.uk.

A total coverage “blackout” has been reported by hundreds of people, while several hundred others have reported losing their landline internet connection.

Some have said that the outage is preventing them from accessing their Sky Sports accounts, while others have reported that their emails are being knocked out.

A heatmap of affected areas shows they are concentrated in cities across the UK, including London, Manchester, Nottingham and Cardiff.

Virgin Media has over 5.8million broadband customers in the UK.

The interruption occurred during an extremely busy time for sports broadcasting, including the intense and thrilling last day of England's test match versus India.

People have taken to social media to express their frustration about the outage this morning.

One user shared: “Thanks to @virginmedia for making signing into the Sky Sports app impossible. I'm guessing I wont be watching the last day of the Cricket today.”

While another user wrote: “Why is my virgin login details not letting me log into the Sky Sports app? It keeps coming with an error - I have tried verifying myself about 7 times now. It’s ridiculous. This is what I see on my iPad.”

Another user made a jab at the internet provider, saying: “Could we please tell @englandcricket to hold off beating India in the cricket until the Sky Sports app sorts itself out with Virgin Media logins! @virginmedia@SkySports.”

Virgin Media has recommended users to contact customer assistance through its X account, although it has not yet provided a statement.

Virgin Media recently experienced problems in February of this year.

And a Virgin Media spokesperson said at the time: “We’re aware that some customers are experiencing intermittent issues with their services. We apologise for any inconvenience and are working to fix this as a priority.”
