Virgin Media down: TV service stops working for users across UK

Virgin Media's TV services have stopped working, briefly leaving people service on their television.

The company's services are down across the UK, according to the tracking website Down Detector.

Users reported problems with both its mobile service for phones as well as its cable service for homes, though Virgin said the only problems were with its televisions services. TV services also stopped working, with affected users seeing a "V53" error.

The issues were hitting users across the country, Down Detector's outage map showed. Problems were particularly common in London, Birmingham and Manchester, it showed – though that might simply be a result of there being more people watching the TV there.

Virgin said the issues have now been fixed.

"Briefly this morning some of our customers experienced issues with their TV services but this was resolved by 09:15," a spokesperson said. "We have no other nationwide problems with any of our services."

The company's Twitter feed has been responding to users complaining of problems. It said its team "is probably receiving a high volume of calls and messages", and was attempting to help people fix the issues.

Virgin's status page, which is supposed to allow people to see whether there are problems with the service in their area, also appears to be broken.

Virgin is one of a range of companies that have committed to Ofcom's new plans which should see customers hit with prolonged outages receive automated refunds.

It also comes just days after Which? revealed that Virgin is the worst ISP for internet outages, with one in six users saying they had been hit by lengthy problems.
