Virgin Media broadband internet down across the UK

Problems with Virgin Media's broadband are causing outages across the UK.

Hundreds of customers have complained that they are unable to get online on Wednesday.

More than 700 people have lodged complaints with Down Detector, a website which collects issues with networks, the Mirror reports.

An outage heat map shows people are logging complaints in Newcastle, Sunderland and Middlesbrough. The connectivity problems appear to have started at around 7am and peaked shortly before 9am.

Many people have taken to social media to vent their frustrations about the technological problem.

The majority of the reports are coming from London, Birmingham, Bristol, Nottingham, Leeds, Manchester, Sheffield, Liverpool and Glasgow.

While internet issues are always annoying, the impact on users may be more pronounced now than ever.

Not having a good broadband connection can be costly with so many people working from home.

Virgin said on Twitter: "We’re aware of a technical problem affecting the 'My Virgin Media' portal, this will impact access to your Virgin Media account information.

"This will not affect connectivity relating to your other services. A fix is being worked on and we apologise for any inconvenience caused."

However, several people have still complained they have not been able to get online.
