Virgin Hotel Edinburgh: New images show bright red steel structure amid historic buildings

New imagery released by consultancy agency Will Rudd shows how one of Edinburgh's largest hotel developments is coming along during the pandemic.

In a shot shared by engineering consultants Will Rudd, the new bright red steel frame of the UK's first Virgin Hotel can be seen standing out against the historic Old Town of Edinburgh.

The new lifestyle hotel from Sir Richard Branson is set to open in 2022 and is located in the landmark India Buildings near The Royal Mile.

The space itself will feature 222 Chambers and multiple dining and drinking outlets and is forecast to boost the local economy by around £5million and expected to create around 200 full-time jobs.

According to Virgin, the property will be a "stunning mix of old and new reflecting the city’s eclectic and energetic style, while remaining true to its historic heritage".

Sir Richard Branson said of the new hotel: "Edinburgh is such an iconic city and we’re thrilled to be able to say it will be the home of the first Virgin Hotel in the UK and across Europe.

“My grandparents were from Edinburgh and my wife Joan is also Scottish, so the country has always held a special place in my heart.

"The people of Edinburgh have been so great in welcoming us to their great city; we can’t wait to open our doors to people across the country and, indeed, the world."
