Virgin Atlantic wins High Court injunction to halt pilots' strike over Christmas

Virgin Atlantic has won a High Court injunction to halt a series of planned strikes by pilots over the festive season.

A judge in London granted the order on Thursday against the Professional Pilots Union (PPU), which was due to launch a series of walkouts starting on Saturday.

Mr Justice Choudhury said: "This is a clear case, in my judgment, where the balance of convenience lies in the injunction being granted."

Members of the Professional Pilots Union (PPU) were due to stage a series of walkouts in a row over union recognition.

The PPU, which represents around a third of Virgin's 960 pilots, wants the airline to recognise it so it can negotiate for pay and conditions on behalf of its members.

The first strike was due to last from Saturday to Christmas Day, followed by a series of stoppages in January, February and early March.
