Virgin Atlantic gives sneak peek at A350-1000 aircraft with its new livery

Virgin Atlantic has offered a first look at its brand new A350-1000 aircraft set to take to the skies later this summer.

The airline's new addition has undergone a transformation after having its livery painted at the Airbus factory in Toulouse, France, where it was coated in the company's iconic red and silver colour scheme.

The aircraft, registered G-VPOP and nicknamed 'Mamma Mia', spent nearly a month at the hangar receiving the makeover.

Mamma Mia will be based in London, with flights scheduled on its direct route to JFK airport in New York City.

It underwent a series of preparations before 20 Airbus specialists applied the paint for approximately eight days, with Virgin offering a sneak peek on its blog .

It's not the first time we've had a sneak peek at the A350.

Earlier this year, the airline offered a glimpse inside the cabins including its lavish upper class suites .

The new aircraft marks a milestone for Virgin Atlantic, whose fleet is undergoing some major changes.

In fact, the carrier is aiming to replace 100 per cent of its planes over a ten-year period (2014-2024), which would see it become one of the youngest fleets with an average aircraft age of 5.3 years.

That recently included placing a $4.1billion (approx £3.2billion) for 14 new Airbus planes.

All 14 will be new Airbus A330-900neo, with Virgin Atlantic being the first UK airline to order this type of aircraft.

Eight of the planes will be purchased and six will be leased under the new order, which comes following the airline's partnerships with Airbus and Rolls Royce.

They will be based at London Heathrow, London Gatwick and Manchester Airport.
