Virgin Atlantic's Twitter account infuriates Irish people with 'British' tweet

Virgin Atlantic infuriated a number of Irish people over the weekend with a tweet ahead of the latest round of Autumn Nations Cup games.

The airline had good intentions in wishing England, Ireland, Scotland and Wales good luck ahead of their respective fixtures, but ended the tweet with '#British'.

That led to a number of replies reminding the airline that Ireland is not part of Britain.

One read: "Sorry lads, you’re very wrong there. Ireland, not in Britain."

Another said: "C'mon lads..... A geography and history lesson needed here!! #Ireland."

Someone else commented: "You do know Ireland isn’t part of Britain, nor are we British. Someone might need a geography lesson. #virginatlantic #fail."

One other tweet simply read: "Ireland isn’t in Britain."

Andy Farrell's side face Georgia at the Aviva Stadium on Sunday, eight days after their defeat to England at Twickenham.

There are nine changes to the side from last week, with Billy Burns starting at number 10.

Speaking ahead of the game, head coach Farrell said: "We’re excited to see Billy [Burns] with his first start. He now gets to run the show for the first time, and he’s been involved with us for a few weeks now, so it’s his opportunity to run the team and the game.

"It was a big week for James [Ryan] last week against England and this is a great opportunity to reflect on the experience and go ahead to captain the side for the second time."

On Shane Daly’s inclusion, he added:  "It’s special to give somebody an opportunity to possibly come off the bench and make his debut for his country - it’s a special moment for him and his family.

"He’s had a bit of bad luck with injuries before camp, but he has fitted in unbelievably well - especially for a youngster. He can cover many positions on the field and he’s calm and collected in his approach to the game."
