Virgil van Dijk trains with AC Milan legend as Liverpool star steps up return

Liverpool’s Virgil van Dijk has been stepping up his return to fitness with Dutch football legend Clarence Seedorf.

Seedorf, 44, who won the Champions League with three different clubs – Ajax, Real Madrid and AC Milan – shared a photograph of himself alongside the Reds defender following the pair’s workout session at the NAS Sports Complex in Dubai.

The retired midfielder, who also thanked Sheikh Hamdan Al Maktoum for his hospitality, said: “I joined the captain Virgil van Dijk for some training today.

“Happy to see his determination and hard work to be back on the pitch stronger than before.

“In these type of journeys, patience and focus are key to succeed. Keep it up my brother!”

Van Dijk, who joined Liverpool for £75million three years ago – a world-record fee for a defender at the time – is currently sidelined following an operation for an anterior cruciate ligament injury which he picked up in the Merseyside Derby on October 17 following a challenge by Everton goalkeeper Jordan Pickford.

Along with fellow Liverpool centre-back Joe Gomez, the 29-year-old was expected to be out of action for the remainder of the current season.
