Virgil van Dijk takes major step in Liverpool training

Virgil van Dijk has returned to solo Liverpool training.

The centre-back was pictured at the AXA Training Centre on Wednesday, outside with the ball at his feet in what is a huge step in his recovery progress.

The Dutchman, who was in good spirits during his session and smiling away, also took on some ladder work and trained on his own as his journey back to full fitness continues

Van Dijk suffered serious anterior cruciate ligament damage against Everton back in October when Jordan Pickford launched himself into a reckless challenge and left him needing surgery.

The £75million defender underwent surgery in London later that month and was back at Liverpool 's AXA Training Centre in December undergoing rehabilitation on the knee with some light sessions in the gym.

Van Dijk has spent much of his time in Dubai since, training at the NAS Sports Complex at Nad Al Sheba.

He was seen there kicking a ball while also joining up with former Reds centre-back Dejan Lovren, AC Milan legend Clarence Seedorf and UFC champion fighter Khabib Nurmagomedov.

However, he is now back in Liverpool and starting to undertake recovery work with the Reds at the training base in Kirkby.
