Virgil van Dijk spotted with Rangers boss Gio van Bronckhorst as Celtic hero shares a laugh with Ibrox boss

You can go anywhere in the world but you always find a connection to Glasgow's big two. Liverpool defender Virgil van Dijk is no different as the former Celtic hero bumped into Rangers boss Gio van Bronckhorst.

Van Bronckhorst and his Ibrox squad have travelled to the Algarve to take part in a warm weather training camp with their first pre-season fixture against Sunderland just around the corner. Despite ramping up preparations for the new Scottish Premiership season with the game at the sunny Estádio Municipal de Albufeira on July 9, there was still time for a joke with the former Parkhead centre-back.

The image has emerged on social media of the Netherlands international in talks with the former Ibrox boss, with the Liverpool defender ramping up his pre-season preparations at the same facility being used by Rangers in Portugal. It's a massive season for the 30-year-old as he looks to lift the English Premier League trophy with Liverpool, and is also gearing up for the World Cup later this year.

It was all smiles between the pair, and Van Bronckhorst could have been offering some advice ahead of Qatar having earned a runners-up medal at the World Cup in 2010. It's unlikely the Light Blues boss was making a transfer approach ahead of the new season.

And if he was, the former Celtic star was quick to laugh it off. Since leaving Glasgow's east end for Southampton in 2015, Van Dijk has gone on to lift the English Premier League title and Champions League trophy.
