Virgil van Dijk sends perfect message to Liverpool fans after Champions League win

Liverpool fans are loving life after a 2-0 win over Tottenham Hotspur on Saturday evening saw the Reds land the European Cup for the sixth time in the club's history.

But as impressive as the club's feats on the field this season is the connection between the players and the fans.

Liverpool star defender Virgil van Dijk epitomised this good feeling between the supporters and the players when he sent a wonderful and classy message to fans in the aftermath of the Champions League win over Spurs.

Van Dijk caught a breath momentarily during celebrations on the pitch in Madrid and proceeded to hail the fans during an interview with beIN Sports.

He said: “I came out to Liverpool because look how passionate the fans are, real fans.

"They live and die for the club and even if we wouldn’t get the result they’ll still be here for us and that’s a good feeling."

Van Dijk, for one, believes this is the start of something special at Liverpool and potentially the first of many trophies, with the centre-back explaining how the players are developing and growing as a unit.

Van Dijk added: "We grow as players and as human beings and as a group. We have a great togetherness.

"I am really proud to play with these players and for these fans."
