Virgil van Dijk's heartfelt message to Liverpool fans sees him sign off for summer in style

Virgil van Dijk has signed off for the summer with a classy message of thanks to Liverpool's supporters.

The centre-back enjoyed an outstanding season at the heart of the Reds' defence, winning the PFA Players' Player of the Year award in the Premier League as Liverpool finished with the best defensive record in the division.

Van Dijk 's superlative form was a big reason behind the club's ability to keep as many as 21 clean sheets last time around and the Reds' backline shipped just 22 goals, finishing their campaign on 97 points to just miss out on the title.

The Netherlands captain capped off his fine season in incredible fashion nearly two weeks ago as Jurgen Klopp's side won the Champions League in Madrid.

A typically assured performances from Van Dijk helped keep Harry Kane and his team-mates quiet at the Wanda Metropolitano as Liverpool beat Tottenham 2-0 in the Spanish capital on June 1.

That was followed up by a runners-up spot in the UEFA Nations League with the Dutch against Portugal on Sunday and the world's most expensive defender is now set for some well-earned time off.

"We achieved great things this season at Liverpool as a team and I feel proud to be part of such an incredible club with this group of players.
