Virgil van Dijk makes his first competitive appearance for 10 months as Liverpool are hosted by Norwich City.
The Dutchman hasn't played for the Reds in the Premier League since he suffered anterior cruciate ligament damage at Everton on October 17 last year.
However, after returning to fitness in the summer, Van Dijk, fresh from a new four-year deal on Friday, is named alongside Joel Matip at centre-back as Jurgen Klopp's side get their Premier League campaign up and running at Carrow Road.
Klopp's midfield three contains James Milner, Naby Keita and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain as Diogo Jota is preferred to Roberto Firmino in attack.
Milner will captain the side in Jordan Henderson's absence, with both the skipper and Thiago Alcantara missing out entirely after barely featuring during pre-season.
As expected, Kostas Tsimikas deputises for the injured Andy Robertson at left-back with Trent Alexander-Arnold on the right side.
