Virgil van Dijk provides fresh Liverpool injury update

Liverpool star Virgil van Dijk has provided an update on his progress as he continues his recovery from injury.

Van Dijk has been out of action since suffering anterior cruciate ligament damage to his knee during the 2-2 draw with Everton in October.

The defender has spent much of the past couple of months in Dubai, training at the Nad al Sheba Complex.

But he is now back on Merseyside and stepping up his rehabilitation at the club's new £50million AXA Training Centre in Kirkby.

Van Dijk posted a video clip of him doing some work in the pool from his official Instagram account on Monday.

The Netherlands international could be seen from behind jogging in the water while looking at a series of monitors in front of him.

Liverpool were tagged in the social media post, along with two emojis - a man running an an egg timer.

Van Dijk is clearly keen to get back on the pitch, though manager Jurgen Klopp has suggested he will not figure again this season, even though he will remain on the club's Premier League squad list.

Klopp said earlier this month: "At the moment, nobody, no doctor has told me there's a chance for Virgil to play in this season again.

"I don't want to say it is absolutely impossible, but it is not likely. It's not likely and we don't have to discuss these things really.

"So like I said, if we have space we would put them all on, even when all the medical people tell us there is no chance, we put them all on because we believe in miracles from time to time.

"But if there is no place and we have to consider these things and say their chance is not too big [to be fit] so now we have to make a decision.

"If they are on the list then it is only because we hope for a miracle. That is it."
