Virgil van Dijk posts update after 'promising' injury comments from Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp

Virgil van Dijk has given Liverpool fans encouragement that his comeback from injury could be ahead of schedule after posted his latest training update on social media.

The centre-back shared two photographs of himself in the gym on Twitter, including one of him lifting weights, accompanied by the caption “The hard work continues..”

Meanwhile, on Instagram he posted a video of himself on an exercise bike as part of his fitness regime at the NAS Sports Complex in Dubai.

The Dutch international damaged the anterior cruciate ligament in his right knee following a challenge from Everton goalkeeper Jordan Pickford in Liverpool's 2-2 draw in the Merseyside Derby at Goodison Park on October 17.

Van Dijk subsequently underwent successful surgery but he is expected to remain sidelined from Reds matches for several months with no certain timeline placed on when he will be back in action.

However, Kopites have been encouraged by a series of online updates from the 29-year-old as he charts his return to fitness.

On Sunday, he posted a photograph of him back kicking a ball on a pitch for the first time since suffering his horror injury.

Dutch football legend Clarence Seedorf shared a picture on December 30 as he joined Van Dijk for a workout.

The £75million signing showed a video montage of himself on December 21 with the message: “Step by step” in which he did keepie-uppies with a football in the gym plus weights and a series of exercises.

Before heading out to the United Arab Emirates, on December 4, Van Dijk showed himself working in the gym at Liverpool’s new AXA Training Centre in Kirkby captioned “Working harder than ever.”

And speaking ahead of the Burnley match, Reds boss Jurgen Klopp said on Van Dijk: "I don’t know what is possible and what is not, I don’t think I am the right person to judge it.

"He looks really good and I spoke to him this morning [Wednesday] and he is in a good mood, so it is all very promising. But I don’t know when he will be back. There are for sure a lot of stages to go over and to pass, that is clear."
