Virgil Van Dijk posts new fitness update as Liverpool star's road to recovery continues

Virgil van Dijk has posted a video update as his road back to fitness for Liverpool continues.

Van Dijk has been out of action since suffering a serious knee injury when caught by a horror challenge from Everton goalkeeper Jordan Pickford in the Goodison derby on October 17.

The Holland international subsequently underwent successful surgery on the damaged anterior cruciate ligament in his right knee with Liverpool refusing to rule him out for the remainder of the season.

His recovery programme took a significant step last week when he was able to start working with a ball for the first time.

And he posted a video to his social media channels on Tuesday evening showing he is still putting the hard work in even during the festive period.

The footage showed the big defender working hard on an exercise bike, seemingly in Liverpool's new AXA Training Centre in Kirkby, and pedalling hard to put strengthen his knees.

The footage was accompanied only by a cycling emoji with Van Dijk's concentration and determination in the video clearly speaking for itself.

Speaking late last month, Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp was encouraged by the early stages of Van Dij's rehabilitation.

"Considering the circumstances, he's doing really well," said the Reds boss.

“His knee looks good for a knee with that surgery and the time he had since the surgery.

“So, yes, of course we are in contact and he's doing well, that's true.”
