Virgil van Dijk pays tribute to departing Liverpool staff member key to his form

Liverpool defender Virgil van Dijk has paid tribute to a departing member of the club's backroom staff who has been key to his form.

First-team physio Christopher Rohrbeck is set to leave this summer after three years on Merseyside, while he also spent time with Jurgen Klopp at Mainz.

Van Dijk said that Rohrbeck has been crucial to retaining his fitness throughout the last two season in which the centre-back has starred in the Premier League for the Reds.

Following Liverpool 's 3-1 win at Newcastle United on the final day of the league season, Van Dijk had a message for Rohrbeck.

"We are looking forward to the break and hopefully we will be all fresh for next season," Van Dijk told Sky Sports. "I'm very proud and happy. It's never easy to keep yourself fit.

"I try to look after myself. A lot of credit has to go to Christopher Rohrbeck our physio who is sadly leaving us. He has been outstanding for me."

Van Dijk also touched on his personal highlight this season and how difficult winning the league will be again next term.

"The personal highlight is winning the Premier League. But this should spur us on even harder to retain the title," Van Dijk added.

"It's going to be tough. Teams are going to improve and want to beat us even more. We will focus on one game at a time. That's what we did already this season."

Arsenal head of physiotherapy Chris Morgan will rejoin Liverpool's backroom staff ahead of next season
