Virgil van Dijk on the Celtic snooze sessions ruined by Scott Brown's party anthems

Weary Virgil van Dijk admits Celtic skipper Scott Brown kept him from his bed when the pair were team-mates in Glasgow.

The £75million Liverpool star, regarded by many as the best defender in the world, has recalled the occasions when the Parkhead leader's eclectic music taste denied him an afternoon siesta during hotel stays.

But the Dutchman, who spent two seasons with the 34-year-old, has nothing for affection for the beating heart of the current Celtic side, although has confessed his patience was tested on occasion.

Van Dijk admits Brown 's boundless energy isn't just limited to the pitch.

He told Celtic TV: "When we were in the team hotel, I think he was always next door to me.

"I always had an afternoon sleep just to relax but he was always playing this horrendous trance/house music, like Happy Hardcore, that would keep going."

The 28-year-old, speaking on Brown's new DVD charting his trophy-laden 12-year stay in Glasgow, holds his former leader in high regard.

And he reckons the former Scotland international's reputation as a fearsome tackler puts opponents on the back foot before a ball is even kicked.

Van Dijk added "He will always give 100 per cent for the team, he's a fantastic guy, he helped me a lot and he's up there with the five best captains I've worked with.

"Opposition players know they can't really mess with him and are a little bit afraid to go into a 50/50 challenge when he's coming."
