Virgil van Dijk on Liverpool and Celtic team-mates and his toughest opponent

Virgil van Dijk has revealed who he considers to be the best player he appeared alongside during his time at Celtic.

The Liverpool defender, who finished second in the 2019 Ballon d'Or nominations, was brought to Celtic Park in June 2013 and made 115 appearances for the club before joining Southampton in September 2015.

With football brought to a halt by the lockdown, the Dutchman took part in an online Q&A session with fans.

Celtic supporter @paulthetim asked who the best player van Dijk had played with at Celtic was, to which the 28-year-old replied: "I loved my time at Celtic and played with so many top players but a special mention for Stefan Johansen."

Asked by @AnfieldRd96 who his toughest opponent has been, van Dijk said: There are some difficult strikers out there but probably Leo Messi."

Team-mate Andy Robertson had recently taken part in his own Q&A, in which a photo was shared of the Scotland captain challenging van Dijk when they played for Dundee United and Celtic respectively.

Van Dijk replied: "I megged him."

After leaving Celtic for £13m, van Dijk spent two years at Southampton before joining Liverpool in January 2018. The reported fee of £75m was a world record for a defender.
