Virgil van Dijk names his toughest opponent and best player he has played with

Virgil van Dijk has named Sergio Aguero as his toughest opponent - and a Liverpool star as his greatest ever teammate.

The Liverpool defender has enjoyed a fine start to the season after an excellent campaign for club and country last term.

Van Dijk's performances have led to him being installed as the favourite for the Ballon d'Or.

Ahead of his side's clash with Arsenal at Anfield this weekend, Van Dijk was asked about the best players he has taken to the field alongside in his career with Groningen, Celtic, Southampton and Liverpool.

"I’m going to be a little bit biased and say one of my team-mates; I would say Roberto Firmino," he told talkSPORT.

Van Dijk was also asked about his toughest opponent and named Manchester City marksman Sergio Aguero.

He named Liverpool's incredible 4-0 victory over Barcelona in the semi-final of the Champions League as the greatest match he has played in.

And the Dutchman ensured he wouldn't upset anyone when asked for the best manager on the planet.

Van Dijk selected Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp and his international manager Ronald Koeman.

The Dutchman also recently admitted he no longer wants to become a football manager after he retires because the world can be "very cruel".

Instead, it seems Van Dijk would rather become a scout.

"At the beginning of my career I thought I might be a manager but at this point I don't think I will become a manager," Van Dijk told Optus Sport.

"The world can be very cruel... there are a lot of people that have opinions and that can affect you - if you have the choice you'd rather not be in those kind of situations."
