Virgil van Dijk misses Liverpool training but is not suffering with injury

Liverpool have flown out to Qatar to try and claim the Club World Cup for the first time in their illustrious history.

Before the Reds take on Mexican side Monterrey in the semi-final of the competition, Jurgen Klopp held an open training session at the Qatar University stadium complex in the country's capital Doha.

The players were put through their paces and given instructions from the German manager as they adjust to the Middle Eastern climate.

Every player in the travelling party was present at the session apart from colossal centre-back Virgil van Dijk and Gini Wijnaldum, who is suffering with a niggling muscle injury.

Anfield sources remain tight lipped over why the defender was not present and taking part with the rest of his team-mates.

However, the ECHO understands he is not suffering from injury and that cannot be cited as the reason he was missing.

If the Dutchman is unable to prepare or unable to play for Liverpool in the competition, it will be a big blow given the magnitude of his influence on matches and those around him.

Whatever the case, Klopp will be hoping he is available for the match on December 18 which is set to take place at the Khalifa International Stadium.
