Virgil van Dijk makes Celtic observation as Liverpool star raves about former club

Liverpool star Virgil Van Dijk reckons former club Celtic are underestimated by outsiders who are unaware of their stature.

The former Hoops defender spent two seasons with the Parkhead side between 2013 and 2015 before earning a big-money move to Southampton.

His excellent displays with the Saints led to Liverpool splashing £75m on the Dutchman and he's been a roaring success with the Premier League side.

Van Dijk's classy displays for club and country earned him the UEFA's Men's Player of the Year after playing a key role in the Reds' Champions League triumph.

The 28-year-old has always been kind with his words when discussing Celtic and has once again hailed the club for helping him reach the top of the game.

He told beIN Sports: "Celtic are a massive club and people underestimate them sometimes.

"It's such a historic club, a great environment to be (a part of).

"The fans are outstanding, the stadium is amazing and to get Champions League in my first season there was great for my development."
