Virgil van Dijk issues Chelsea warning to Liverpool teammates ahead of UEFA Super Cup clash

Chelsea face Liverpool in the European Super Cup this evening still reeling from a 4-0 hammering by Manchester United in their opening match of the 2019/20 Premier League season.

But one Liverpool star in Virgil van Dijk has still provided a Chelsea warning for the Reds ahead of the clash in Turkey.

Much has been made of Chelsea's troubles in the last few months after a summer of change at Stamford Bridge.

Eden Hazard, who helped the Blues to third place in the Premier League and a Europe League trophy win last season, has left for Real Madrid.

Maurizio Sarri has departed for Juventus to allow Frank Lampard to take over at his former club, with a transfer window ban hamstringing the former England international's ability to begin his managerial tenure at the Blues in the right manner.

But when it comes to life post-Hazard and analysing Lampard's troops prior to the Super Cup contest, Van Dijk insists Chelsea still have that top quality which could cause Liverpool plenty of problems at BJK Vodafone Park in Istanbul.

"(Hazard) is a quality player and he was important to them but I think they have plenty of quality players," Van Dijk explained, per Goal."I think they play a little bit different than they did last year.

"We will analyse them and then we will be prepared.

"Nothing that happened last season will have any impact on what is going to happen. It is going to be a new game.

"They have a new situation at the club there but we want to do better than we did last year and we will see."

Meanwhile, Liverpool will be without star goalkeeper Alisson due to a calf injury which will keep him sidelined for the next few weeks, with Van Dijk explaining what Chelsea can expect from Adrian, formerly of West Ham United.

"I think he played many big games in his career so I don't think he is going to be nervous or anything," Van Dijk added.

"It is just that he has to do his job with us and hopefully we can win the trophy in the end."
