Virgil van Dijk in bullish Rangers Champions League stance as Liverpool star maps out plan to rescue season

Confident Virgil van Dijk reckons that Liverpool will get their season back on track - starting with the Champions League showdown with Rangers at Anfield.

It's been a nightmare start to the campaign for Jurgen Klopp's side having managed just two wins from their first seven English Premier League games so far, leaving them languishing in mid-table as they heading into a massive European encounter with Gio van Bronckhorst's side. Ahead of the clash at Anfield on Tuesday, Liverpool blew a 3-2 lead against Brighton at home to ramp up the pressure in the Red's going as they get back to European action.

However, former Celtic defender Van Dijk was calm about the season so far, with the centre-back insisting there is still plenty of time to turn the campaign around. The 31-year-old believes the next five games will be vital in rebuilding the confidence of the struggling Anfield flops - including the double header with Rangers.

He said following the draw with Brighton: "Obviously, we’ve had some setbacks, and it is difficult to react the right way if you are not in the best possible shape, all of us. But I’m confident that we will be.

"What is it, four months ago we were playing for all the titles? Now we are not in the best moment, but we will get there.

“I’m confident, I am confident we will turn this around. We have to find that moment, and obviously we know we have tough games ahead. Rangers in the Champions League, then Arsenal, Rangers, (Manchester) City.

“So let’s just go for it, get the confidence back, get the consistency back and yeah we know we will get there.”
