Virgil van Dijk hails Man City in classy message after Liverpool FC lose Premier League title

Manchester City edged Liverpool to the Premier League title on Sunday and since then there have been reactions galore to the Blues retaining their trophy.

Pep Guardiola's men confirmed their title repeat by defeating Brighton 4-1 thanks to goals from Sergio Aguero, Aymeric Laporte, Riyad Mahrez and Ilkay Gundogan.

Liverpool's 29-year wait to land the league crowd was extended despite winning 2-0 at home to Wolves and even though the nature of the title loss was agonising, the Reds have responded by showing great humility whilst praising their rivals Man City.

Vincent Kompany sent his own classy message to Liverpool late on Sunday evening and that has been matched by Virgil van Dijk's assessment of Liverpool's title defeat to Man City.

“Congratulations to City, they deserved it,” Van Dijk said. “It was a great title race and I’ve enjoyed every bit of it. I think we are all going to be a little disappointed because we are so close.

Sergio Aguero reveals Man City's next challenge after beating Liverpool FC to Premier League

“To get 97 points, to play football like we have played all season, we have to be very, very proud. I don’t care about another opinion, but we work so hard every day to be challenging to be as close as possible. City were just a tiny little bit better than us.

“It doesn’t mean it is all over. We take a lot of things with us. We will take this on, and hopefully we can challenge next year and do even better. We have to look on the positive side and remember we are still in Madrid. Hopefully we can end the season on a high. That’s what we are going to try and do.”
