Virgil van Dijk gives Celtic 'special mention' as Liverpool star makes surprise best team-mate choice

Former Celtic defender Virgil van Dijk has given a "special mention" to a former team-mate - and it's not necessarily who you'd expect.

The Dutchman spent two full seasons at Parkhead before moving to Southampton.

He later became the world's most expensive defender when Liverpool paid a reported £75million to bring him to Anfield.

With football shut down due to the coronavirus crisis, Van Dijk took to Twitter for a Q&A session where he was asked for his best team-mate at Celtic.

He replied: "I loved my time at Celtic and played with so many top players.

"But a special mention for Stefan Johansen."

Given he played with the likes of Fraser Forster, Victor Wanyama and Kieran Tierney it was perhaps a surprising response.

Club captain Scott Brown, winger James Forrest or striker Leigh Griffiths might also have been more predictable answers.

Clearly thought it was Johansen who most impressed Van Dijk, and who are we to argue?
