Virgil van Dijk drops hint to Jurgen Klopp about who his perfect defensive partner is

Virgil van Dijk has seemingly told Jurgen Klopp that Joe Gomez is the perfect player to partner him at centre-back.

The Holland international made the admission during a Twitter Q&A on Tuesday night, in which he answered questions from fans about his life, Liverpool, and his interests.

Van Dijk joined Liverpool from Southampton in 2018 in a transfer worth £75million.

The Dutchman has been a mainstay at centre-back ever since, but has been partnered with a number of players, most notably: Dejan Lovren, Joel Matip and Joe Gomez.

The latter is the man he has spent the most time playing alongside, but he also enjoyed a good spell stood next to Matip when Gomez picked up an injury.

Over the years Liverpool have been linked to other centre-backs in passing.

Matthijs de Ligt was talked about prior to his move to Juventus, as the Dutchman plays alongside Van Dijk for the Holland national team.

But it seems Klopp has got it spot on once again by playing Van Dijk with Gomez.

Responding to the question: "Out of any centre half to have ever played, who would you most like to have played alongside?" Van Dijk simply replied: "Joe Gomez."

England international Gomez spotted the tweet and responded to his team-mate with a GIF of LA Lakers pair Anthony James shaking hands with Lebron James.
