Virgil van Dijk and Lucas Leiva send same message after Liverpool's win against Monterrey

Liverpool's march towards another trophy continued after a 2-1 triumph against Monterrey in the Club World Cup semi-final in Qatar, courtesy of Roberto Firmino's late strike.

The Reds opened the scoring through Naby Keita but were pegged back immediately by Rogelio Funes Mori's equaliser, which left the match delicately poised for the remainder of the first period.

After the restart, the match continued in similar fashion and looked set to be decided through extra-time until Firmino, off the bench, fired Jurgen Klopp's side into Saturday's final.

Following the match, Virgil van Dijk, who did not feature due to illness, took to social media to celebrate the victory - and posted the same message as former Reds midfielder Lucas Leiva.

Liverpool will face Copa Liberatores champions Flamengo in the final on Saturday, held in Doha.

And the Reds will be looking to win the competition for the first time in the club's history.

Klopp's side will then return to Premier League action on Boxing Day with a clash against Leicester City, before facing Wolves and Sheffield United over the New Year.

Liverpool are currently 10 points clear at the top of the Premier League table, with Leicester back in second.

Leicester travel to play third-placed Manchester City at on Saturday at the same time the Reds will be kicking off in Qatar.
