Virgil Abloh has designed a Leonardo da Vinci-themed Off-White collection for the Louvre

Virgil Abloh, the ultimate cultural disturber, has re-defined fashion's role to play in popular culture since he launched Off-White™ in 2013.

And now he is proving that fashion and art are once more intrinsically linked, as he has designed an Off-White™ capsule collection in collaboration with the Louvre.

The collection comprises t-shirts and sweatshirts and aim to celebrate the life and works of Leonardo da Vinci, ahead of the museum's seminal exhibition of the artist next year.

The pieces of the capsule collection combine sections of Da Vinci’s painting with the Off-White™ logo.

For the collection, two works in particular have been featured, Da Vinci’s The Virgin of the Rocks and Saint Anne, which 39-year-old Abloh has woven together with Off-White™'s trademark street wear slogans.

Speaking about the collection, Abloh said: “I want to crash together these two worlds that are seemingly different: fashion and high art. It’s a crucial part of my overall body of work to prove that any place, no matter how exclusive it seems, is accessible to everyone. I think that Leonardo da Vinci was maybe the first artist to live by that principle, and I am trying to as well.”

The Louvre’s permanent collection includes various works by Da Vinci, including the ‘Mona Lisa’ and 22 drawings and sketches. The exhibition will open to the public on February 24, 2020 and will honour 500 years since the artist's death.

Chicago-born Abloh established Off-White™ in 2013 and he is also the artistic director of Louis Vuitton's menswear.
