Virat Kohli starts training ahead of Asia Cup

MUMBAI: Returning from a break that saw him miss the West Indies tour recently, former India captain Virat Kohli has started his preparation ahead of the Asia Cup, which will be held from August 27-September 11 in UAE.

Since the last couple of days, Kohli has been training at Mumbai Cricket Association’s Indoor Cricket Academy at BKC, along with his IPL team, Royal Challengers Bangalore coach Sanjay Bangar. Bangar is India’s ex-batting coach.

On Thursday, Kohli shared a video clip via an Instagram story of his training session, where he could be seen running between the wickets to warm-up for practice in the indoor facility. Naturally, the video went viral quickly.

The star batsman has under-fire in recent times due to his poor form. On Friday, Kohli trained for around 90 minutes.

“I’ve bowled to him at BKC earlier too. It’s a joy and honour to bowl to one of the best batsmen in the world. He looked in good touch. He kept encouraging me, saying: ‘good ball’ again and again,” one of the net bowlers told TOI.

The spotlight in the T20 Asia Cup, where India could clash three times with Pakistan, is set to firmly be on Kohli, who has been under pressure to retain his place in the T20 team.

“Shikhar Dhawan and KL Rahul are also training at BKC,” a source said.
