Virat Kohli shows class in meeting with Scotland players after India thrashing

Virat Kohli and his fellow India stars have been praised by Cricket Scotland for taking the time to meet and chat with their opponents after demolishing them in the T20 World Cup.

India, who endured a dreadful start to their Super 12 campaign, wasted little time in bowling their opponents out after choosing to field first.

Scotland could only manage 85 before losing their tenth wicket, as the Indian spinners caused chaos among their batting line.

And India's top order were in no mood to mess about either flying to 89/2 in less than seven overs to secure an eight-wicket win and keep their qualification hopes alive.

After being beaten by their far superior opponents, Scotland captain Kyle Coetzer said he hoped he and his players would have the chance to chat about cricket with some of the best players on the planet.

KL Rahul was the first to oblige, being pictured chatting with several members of the Scotland team on the pitch in Dubai after notching a half-century against them in just 18 balls.

And then Cricket Scotland shared photos of captain Kohli and several other Indian players chatting and cracking jokes with their counterparts.

"Huge respect to @imVkohli and co. for taking the time," the governing body said in a Tweet.

Despite the comprehensive defeat, Scotland's head coach Shane Burger said this experience would be vital to his players as they hope to make more regular appearances in these big matches in the future.

"When you get 85 runs it’s always going to be very tough to defend that and we know they’re going to come out and play the way they did," he said.

"The learnings that we take from this are that we now understand where the bar is set in terms of international cricket and the level that you have to be at to be able to compete.

"You bank this as experience and we’ve now played one of the best teams in the world. This for them is very familiar territory whereas for us it’s very unfamiliar territory.

"But what these players will have got is the experience of a pretty packed stadium with a loud fanbase and putting yourself under pressure and you can never put a price on that experience.

"It’s not a time to get the heads down or to stop backing ourselves. We have another opportunity against Pakistan to come out and put in another performance. We need to take as much as we possibly can away from this."

India are two points behind New Zealand in the race to qualify for the semi-finals, but now boast a higher net run rate thanks to their hammering of Scotland.

That run rate boost means India will still be in with a shot of reaching the last four if the Kiwis lose to Afghanistan on Sunday and they beat Namibia the day after.
